monday morning.
9 1/2 hours later,
we were in santa fe.
boyd did so well on the car ride,
there and back.
and we laughed at him a thousand times.
the weather, the food,
and the scenery were perfect.
here are a few highlights.
beautiful colors, everywhere.
we did a lot of window shopping,
and a tiny bit of souvenir shopping.

the beautiful stucco buildings.

what can i say about the food.
it was all delicious.
the chiles were amazing.
we ate a lot of them, red and green.
and i could drink coffee in the mountains,
every single day.

we visited two beautiful churches.

i became obsessed with trader joe's.
and with strawberry tomatoes.

we spent many hours in downtown santa fe,
at this park.
we did a lot of people watching,
boyd ran and played.
it was so much fun,
and so pretty.
you knew i would find a cupcake place.
we had them on tuesday,
when i turned 38 years old. yikes.
boyd had plain chocolate.
mine was called choco chile.
it had red chile in the buttercream frosting.
it was very spicy and sweet,
and i loved it.
i loved every $4.50 bite of it.
only on vacation would i pay that, right?!

we drove up to taos one day.
the drive was breathtaking.
we stopped at the rio grande on the way.

yes there were moments when i wondered,
why did i come on this trip,
with a 3 year old.
and i'm sure my mom thought that too.
ha.
but boyd did really well and had fun.
and i loved this time with him,
and my mom.
boyd only said,
i don't like the mountains,
and
i want to go back to the hotel,
about a thousand times.
bless his heart.
boyd is so done with pictures,
can't you tell?!
and i'm so thankful for a husband,
who supports my whims.

the end.

I'd say you went on the trip with Boyd because it was a great bonding time for the three of you and we never know how many more opportunities we'll get to spend time with the ones we love most!
Love the Voltaire quote and as always, love the picture of that adorable boy of yours!
What boy wouldn't love to stand and throw rocks in the river all day?! Yay for Boyd being so good on the drive...I didn't realize you were going so far!
Is that green chili soup?
I've never heard of strawberry tomatoes.
I can't imagine a spicy and sweet cupcake...but I'd sure like to try it! Love that quote...never thought of it like that before! Wouldn't that be a great little note for the kitchen?!
Beautiful pictures Nicolle!
Thanks both of you! :)
That is their version of chile con queso dip. Just a bowl of green chiles, topped with monterrey jack and white cheddar. We had it twice and it was fabulous! The tomatoes were the best I've ever had. I had not seen them either. I have always wanted to try the spicy/sweet combo with chocolate and it was so good. My mouth was on fire a little, it was so hot.
Oh my goodness, Nicolle! These are your best photos yet! I want to visit those churches and eat that food! I have not seen those strawberry tomatoes at our Trader Joe's but you can bet I will be looking. What coffees did you buy? They have a $20 Hawaiian coffee that I can never get off the wallet to purchase. When does your Trader Joe's open? You will always remember this trip. And for the record, my boys at 14 + 16 always want to go back to the hotel. I loved reading this post!!! Oh, and that photo of Boyd being done with photos..Ha! Hilarious!
Your photos are amazing - they brought back all of my memories of Santa Fe and Taos too! I used to live in Boulder, CO and I love the mountains. I also love towns that have their own vibe and Santa Fe is definitely like that, isn't it?
I'm so glad you had a great time there!
First off, happy belated birthday, you young whipper snapper you!!! The Rio Grande, was just that...GRAND!!! Did you do a tour? We found that quite interesting! I wanted so badly to buy a pendleton blanket. But I didn't. Now I wish I had. We stayed at the magnificent and beautifully rustic, historical La Fonda Hotel downtown. I do hope you at least walked inside to take a peek. My Mom and I, both avid cooks, took a lovely cooking class right there in town, and sampled so many wonderful taste sensations. I do not like hot and spicy, so I had to be careful in that town!!! Darn it all, if we missed the cupcakery you were talking about!! I so enjoyed recounting your trip with you! So glad your little man was good company along the way!
Love the trip pictures, looks like such a wonderful trip. NM is a neat state, often over looked.
I have always wanted to visit Santa Fe!! It looks so amazing! And the pottery!! thanks for sharing Nicolle!!
What a beautiful trip...now you're in my area of the country that I just LOVE. The most beautiful scenery and people. Looks like you all had such a special time together, that's what memories are made of. And, I just can't stop looking at your pictures, they are unreal. I especially love the churches....so glad you had such a nice time. Oh yea, and love the Talavera!!!!
Joni
I love the pictures of the adobe buildings. And Trader Joes...must.go.one.day.
I don't know what the tomatillo dish was but I know I could drink it if dared to do so.
I love shopping with the camera.
First of all: YUM. I am now dying for Sante Fe food, even though I've never been there.
Isn't Trader Joe's the best?
Great pics, as always, Nicolle!!!
Oh, AND.....Happy, happy birthday!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh..the food! It all looks so good!
Love your pictures. Everything is so pretty and colorful there. The churches are gorgeous!!
I'm so jealous over the Trader Joe's stop :o) I've never been in one but hear so many great things about it.
I'm glad you guys had a great trip!
Looks like an awesome way to spend your b-day, Mama. Beautiful! Always love seeing you...and your photos are stunning!
Just catching up on my favorite people and I love that you went to NM on a whim! With your Mama! New Mexico - one of my very favorite places!
Happy belated birthday friend! Much love and best wishes for a great year ahead!
P.S. I am hoping that by the time I am back in Texas we have a Trader Joe's down the street!
Oh my goodness...the colors are amazing. Those skies and the pueblos(?) are breathtaking.
