ash wednesday

The three of us made it to Ash Wednesday mass this morning.
Boyd had messy hair, was missing his top button on his shirt, and his jeans had holes so he had on a pair of grey cotton pants that were too tight. I did not plan our outfits last night, apparently.
We rushed out the door without breakfast, but with a Cars backpack full of snacks, and Boyd's large Tow Mater to keep him entertained.
We made it, and that is all that matters. Getting the ashes grounds me and makes me feel humble.

Kevin is the strict parent during mass. I'm just praying that we make it all the way through each time, without any major incidents or attention. Know what I mean.
Today during mass Boyd said:
why is that grill {girl} looking at me?
where is the baffroom {bathroom}?
i heard a bell.
i need another goldfish cracker.
i already prayed 2 times.
do we have to sit again?
why do you have that black stuff on your head?

We had mexican food for lunch, and now Kevin is off to work.
I've been spraying the house with Lysol, resting, but honestly, I still feel out of it. Tomorrow will be better, right?
I bought a new O magazine. I love this magazine.

Boyd is watching cartoons, and I think I will join him, with my eyes closed.

xo.

Glad you all made it to mass and it went well. Watching cartoons with your eyes closed is the BEST way to do it! Feel better soon mama.

I thought Boyd was at the beach in that last picture, I had to do a double take!! {wouldn't that be nice?!}

I love the innocence of their talk-- even if you do want to put a sock in their mouths from time to time!!! I love that we blog the things they say also, because we will cherish them one day!!

I don't know much about the Catholic faith, but I have worked with a few girls and you give up something important to you for a month for Lent... is that correct?

Is it rude to ask what you have chosen to give up?
(pardon my ignorance if it is?!!)

Take care Nicolle!

You can totally ask Holly. :)

I don't know a lot because I just converted in 2009, but yes, you give up something during Lent that is dear to you, or something that is a sacrifice, something you really enjoy. I'm learning that a lot of other religions observe Lent as well, which is new to me. I had no idea.

I should have included that. It may sound silly, but I'm giving up all the trashy tv that I watch for the month. It's a guilty pleasure and something I resort to in my free time, and I know it's NO good for me, but I love it. I watch way too much of it. I thought about coffee, but I figured Kevin and Boyd would appreciate me NOT giving that up.

Yay that you made it to mass! I remember how tough it was with toddlers at mass! I am sure you get extra grace when you attend with a kiddo.

The pictures you took of Boyd are so GOOD!!!!
If you need me to catch you up on all your shows after Lent- I'd be glad to fill you in! ;) Btw, I grew up Catholic. And, I love those bowls...that Oprah has good taste. :)

Glad you were able to make it to church this morning as a family :o)

I read in your comments what you are giving up ....good for you! One year I think I'll follow your lead.

Hope you're feeling better each day!

I know how hard it is to make it through church with little ones. We have two 'church' bags that are full of snacks and distractions. Reflecting on Christ and the cross is grounding and humbling. Well said. I've been absent from blogging. It's been hard to get into a routine this year, but I'm always happy to read your posts :)

The description of Boyd in church is priceless and will be a great memory for you to look back on someday. My kids have always sat with us during church and they have made huge strides over the years. I remember when Gabe had a pacifier and that was my saving grace until Goldfish! Then it was coloring books and now they actually listen and we talk about the sermon after on the ride home.
Glad you are starting to come out of the fog of the sickies, but you know if you are 100% soon, you should go get some meds. Just sayin.
I love watching cartoons with my eyes closed too! The best!

first, these photos are really great - i see he's cooperating again :) but second, and this is the most important, i'm so glad you're feeling better!! 100% might take a bit, be patient and go easy, but it sounds as though you're on the way!! phew!!

I didn't make it to mass but caught a bit on EWTN not the same. In fact I am not even sure where the local church is here, but I better get on it.

Boyd has the best expressions, he always makes me smile and THOSE CHEEKS!

So glad you are feeling better! hopefully today you are creeping a bit closer to that 100%...or at least in the 90's somewhere!:)

Those questions and comments you captured from Boyd are priceless! I agree with megan, great memory there. Sounds about like us in church these days. Aubrey is right at that age where whispering is really tough!!:)

Something about max and ruby...their voices really put me to sleep! How do the kids make it??:)
have a happy day nicolle
