the summer seems to be going as fast as the school year went.
we are 3 weeks in, and running like crazy.
here's what we've been up to.
swimming with our sweet friends at their beautiful house.
it was such a good day.
impromptu wine in the driveway with friends.
although i think it's getting too hot, and the mosquitos have decided to invade,
so unless we decide to do this at midnight, it was fun while it lasted.
cupcake friday with our dear friend kathy, last week.
chocolate and peanut butter for boyd, pink lemonade for me and kathy.
chocolate and peanut butter for boyd, pink lemonade for me and kathy.
celebrating kevin's birthday.
we keep it simple, but fun.
we also spent the next day at my mom's celebrating.
thank you mom and don.
father's day.
it was hard for me this year.
and i tried so hard to celebrate with kevin, but it was still hard.
and even though some people think time heals, there is always a hole.
i love that one of my best friends thought to text me that morning,
and to acknowledge that it's still hard.
love you w.
and thank you jesus for giving boyd such a good daddy.
kevin is one of the only fathers that i see on our street that gets outside and plays with boyd, plays with the other kids. he is much more patient with boyd than i am. when i tell him to go do something for himself, he says he'd rather be with his family. the three of us have our moments when we'd all love to run in opposite directions, but i'm choosing to count my blessings, because we have so many of them.
we've had 2 more waterpark dates,
we go with friends, and we ran into friends one day, which was an extra treat.
holly and candace, we loved seeing you and your babies.
holly and candace, we loved seeing you and your babies.
the yummiest decaf coconut coffee and playing and visiting at the best of friends' house.
we were there most of the afternoon, but i really love our talks so much, i could have stayed all night,
and i'm pretty sure boyd would move in if i'd let him.
and what good is a cup of coffee, if i don't take a picture of it.
i've enjoyed several cups of coffee outside this week.
i had some yummy pho this week, which boyd kept calling sushi, which makes me laugh.
boyd and i drove out to the country this week,
to buy some fresh peaches, get ice cream, and write on the table.
today was errands, which, let's be honest, every day is errand day.
boyd played some video games at his memaw's house,
and we opted for sugar free shave ice today, instead of cupcakes.
maybe we should not have selected blue coconut, with his white shirt.
it was all over his face, his arms, his shirt, the floor...
and then he stabbed his hand with the umbrella.
oh boyd.
we came home and i fixed boyd some dinner, because somehow we skipped lunch today,
i cleaned up the house, watered my plants, gave boyd more food, helped him in the bathroom,
fixed more dinner for me and kevin...
sat down to eat and all boyd kept saying is that he wanted to play outside.
and i said please let mommy eat first.
and to be honest i was feeling really annoyed.
and we don't want boyd to grow up thinking everything is about him, all the time,
but that's so hard to get across to a 6 year old.
and we don't want boyd to grow up thinking everything is about him, all the time,
but that's so hard to get across to a 6 year old.
don't get me wrong, and i've said this a million times before, i love this precious time with boyd,
but dang it, i sometimes start to feel selfish and tired and wanting a moment.
and i thought about what my friend gabe said the other day...
it's been a day of interruptions.
i had an agenda in mind and instead,
my children kept needing me.
summertime is hard that way.
maybe if i looked at these interruptions as sacred pauses,
i wouldn't be so annoyed.
i must remember her wise words, daily.
and here's to all of the annoying moments, because i will look back one day,
and miss it all.
and here's to all of the annoying moments, because i will look back one day,
and miss it all.
now i've eaten, somehow it's already 8 pm,
and we're headed outside to play.
i hope you are well.
love,
nicolle

Hi Nicolle,
I love your honesty. Every Mom feels this way from time to time.
Sounds like you have been very busy. Same here. Summer is in full swing, and it is getting hot!
Enjoy your little boy! And have a great weekend.
XO Kris
PS Happy Belated to Kevin!!!
That quote from your friend....so true. And I loved that Tim was the dad out in the street with my kids until wayyyy past the point where he needed to be there....like seriously, 7th and 9th grade....but I LOVED it. Now he watches "Cops" with PJ! Ha!
Hi there friend.
Loved reading this. Makes me feel normal that I think everyone is feeling a bit more busy and run down by being needed this summer. I get it. We are having lots of fun being off from schedules and school. But it is definitely different in the summer.
I'm glad Kevin had a nice birthday. He sounds like such a great guy. That's sad that you don't see many other fathers outside playing with their kids. Boyd is a lucky little boy to have you two.
I always wish we could join you at that fun looking water park.
And that pho looks soooo amazing!!! I had Jake ask all the People he works with where's the best place around here to get pho and they all said Orange County. Which isn't really close to just grab dinner. But one of these days I'll try it!
You are having my favorite kind of summer! Thanks for your words today...I've been feeling sorry for myself and I need to look at things differently. Brady is having a blast this summer...doing what he loves. I am trying hard to mix in a little variety for him...whether he likes it or not!
I love what you said about Kevin...Boyd is so blessed to have him for his (fun!)Dad. :)
I never miss one of your posts...just don't always get around to commenting.
Have a great week friend!
Well, this post certainly put a smile on my face! What fun!
And, yes. Summer is flying by. You know we got out in May, so the boys go back a month from tomorrow...8/4! Okay, now I'm sad again...1st and 5th grade!! How can that be?
I loved this... and not just because I read my name!!
The pictures are perfect and so are those words at the end.
Parenting is so exhausting, and I find myself counting down for bedtime-- and then mourning the loss of each day too. How weird is that?!
