first football game

boyd's first football game was this past saturday.
we met at the practice field, then drove to the game.
we play a few away games, and the rest at our home field.
it was exciting, nerve wracking, and ended in a heartbreak.
but, it was good.
and i want to remember all of this,
in case boyd is a famous football player one day,
or for when he's coaching his own kids,
or even if he grows to not love football.
these are the good days. the time we won't get back. the sweetest of memories.

we got rained on a little.
we played a big, strong team.
we were ahead most of the game.
and we lost in the last few seconds.
it was heartbreaking.
boyd shed a few tears.

in boyd's words, the boys on the other team talked smack during the game,
and at the end when they shook hands with the other team,
one boy on the other team said, in yo face.
that's a crappy, hard, but important life lesson.
we told boyd, you play so hard next time that they don't get to say in yo face.
and we talked to him about good sportsmanship and all that good stuff.
{but truthfully i wanted to find that kid's mama, wring some necks, yada yada yada}.
these sweet boys have to learn, they have to grow up, they have to deal with life.

we're eating, breathing and sleeping football right now.
i text my friend sometimes,
and we say how ridiculous and crazy the football schedule is.
but, we know it's good.

love,
nicolle

If I was that boys coach....he wouldn't be playing the next game...he would be sitting and watching the other boys play. :( I hope Boyd understands that boys like that aren't very well liked among their peers and the other teams. And this kind of thing is so much harder on us than our boys, right?
How cool Boyd gets to play on real turf? I hope he has so much fun this season!!!
