texas wildflowers

the texas wildflowers are so pretty right now.
although they are much more widespread the further south you go,
we have some beautiful areas here in north texas.

texas bluebonnets, again

i've been taking bluebonnet pictures for some family friends, for years.
i haven't been as good at taking them of boyd,
but i've taken some of him in the bluebonnets for the last couple of years.
it's a texas tradition, you must do it.
boyd came with me tonight so i could snap a few of him,
and i took some of all of them together.

i grew up being told that it was illegal to pick our state flower,
but that is a myth.
i don't pick them, and i don't think anyone should, but boys will be boys...
and, boys will use bluebonnets as mustaches.

thank you texas for the beautiful bluebonnets.

love,
nicolle

the last few days

a quick cupcake date yesterday.

red velvet for boyd.

i took some texas bluebonnet pictures today.
boyd was trying really hard to make a face here.
and he really needs a haircut.

but i got the pictures,
and we did much better than last year.
{here}.

today the clouds looked like feathers.
i loved them.

i did a little coffee drinking,
and shopping, alone.

we cleaned out the garage and put away the last of the camping stuff,
i think. i hope.
and played outside, a lot.
and that's about it.

happy weekend.

things don't always go as planned

For the last few years, a friend has asked me to take pictures of her kids in the bluebonnets. I took some last night and I loved them. Not because of me, but because we took them at that magical hour before sunset where everything is golden, and there are no shadows or harsh light. With a few tweaks, the colors were so beautiful.

Boyd had no pictures of himself in the texas bluebonnets. If you live here, it's kind of a tradition. So I dressed Boyd real quick this afternoon, did his hair, and off we went. It was hot out, and it was not that golden hour. That golden hour falls during his bedtime, and well, you know.

We parked on the side of the service road and ran down the hill for a few pictures.
Boyd kept yelling,
bees.
BEEEEEEESSSSS.
I kept yelling,
look at the camera.
I got a lot of these looks.

There were in fact bees everywhere.
And I kept thinking of snakes.
And I'm not even sure you can tell these are bluebonnets in some of the pictures.

I got a few sweet smiles.

And then this happened.

Boyd said the grass was too high,
and I think he was just unsure of where he was at.
And his crazy mama was yelling at him to look at the camera.

Sweet baby boy.

At least we got the pictures.
good night.
