my grandma passed away on january 31, 2016,
one day after she turned 93.
she was the last of her siblings to pass away, and my grampa and dad had gone before her.
i knew the day of her passing was coming, but still my heart has been raw and tender,
and the emotions are more than i could have anticipated.
kevin, boyd and i were able to spend some time with her, just hours before she passed.
she was a sweet and gentle grandma.
she loved church and ladies bible class.
she grew the most beautiful irises.
i never heard a cuss word come out of her mouth.
we spent many holidays at her home on victorian drive.
she made the most delicious peanut patties, divinity, and fudge.
i don't ever eat blue bell ice cream without thinking of her.
she and my grampa would go nuts when it went on sale,
they'd tell everyone, and they'd stock their freezer.
we ate many gallons of blue bell with grandma and grampa boyd.
we spent summer evenings catching locusts, putting a needle through them,
without killing them, and then we'd tie them with string to an outdoor rocking chair.
we watched hundreds of episodes of hee-haw,
and ate many plates of nachos that grandma made for us in her toaster oven.
i will miss her.
it's not shocking when someone in their 90s passes,
but it's still a hard goodbye.
i can rest in the knowledge that she's in heaven,
in a beautiful mansion.
this, i know for sure.
my grandma is gone, i'm getting older, and life is a constant change.
"do not be afraid i am with you,
i have called you each by name,
come and follow me,
i will bring you home,
i love you and you are mine".

I am so sorry for your loss. Love you friend.
I am so sorry. I know how close you were to her. It was like that with my Nana. EVERYTHING reminds me of her. She was 99 and still, I wasn't ready to say goodbye.
So I know how you feel my friend. But as you say, you can rest in the knowledge that she in heaven.
Love you,
Kris
