i hope he remembers the yes(es)
i'm usually too tired or crabby after the grocery shopping,
and we pass by these machines and i am not the nicest mother,
and i spout off how stupid they are and no one ever wins and they're a waste of my money,
and a total rip off, and we don't have the time today and hurry let's go.
but, today when boyd asked if he could try for a stuffed animal,
i said yes.
boyd took 4 turns at it.
we left empty handed.
it reminded me of my dad.
he loved these machines.
he never passed one up without playing.
and the sweetest older gentleman that was the door greeter kept peeking around at us,
with the most hopeful look in his eyes, that boyd would win,
and i loved that precious man in that moment.
it was a quick thing and it might sound funny, but it was the best thing, that i can't explain.
as we were walking to the car,
boyd said,
mom, thanks for letting me do the grabber today.
and i melted into a puddle in the walmart parking lot.
some days it's fun to say yes.
i hope he remembers.
love,
nicolle
